Understanding ALS Quebec’s Support Groups
A support group at ALS Quebec is:
- a space to pause and share, alongside others who are living the same reality
- a safe and confidential space where you feel heard and understood
- an environment where meaningful connections can form and mutual support can grow
In general, support groups are:
- composed of approximately 4 to 20 participants
- facilitated by a qualified counsellor, often co‑facilitated with a peer supporter
- online and in-person meetings
- sessions lasting about 90 minutes, every 4 to 6 weeks
Please note: The in‑person group in Ville Lorraine follows an expanded format, which includes a peer testimonials or presentations, light refreshments, and group support discussions. To learn more, click here.
How does a support group work?
These meetings are designed to offer a safe, respectful and compassionate space.
During the group, you can:
- share your experience (if and when you feel ready)
- ask questions
- listen to others and draw inspiration from them
- feel understood, without judgment
These moments allow space for challenges, but also for small joys, laughter, meaningful stories, and practical resources that can truly make a difference in everyday life.

Respite Care (financial support)
Need respite to participate in an ALS Quebec activity?
To help you participate in our groups and webinars with peace of mind, we can cover the cost of respite care services during the meetings. This support can take different forms, such as respite care for the person living with ALS or childcare expenses, to free you from your responsibilities and allow you to be fully present.
For more information, please contact your support counsellor, or reach out to Kate Busch at kbusch@sla-quebec.ca | 514‑725‑2653 ext. 109.
