Lou Gehrig Day and Mosaic
Every June 2nd, the baseball community honors Lou Gehrig's legacy and all those touched by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
On July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig, one of baseball’s greatest players of all time, stood in front of a crowd of 62,000 fans at Yankee Stadium and gave one of the most memorable speeches in sports history.
“For the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth… So I close in saying that I may have had a tough break, but I have an awful lot to live for.”
— Lou Gehrig
Lou Gehrig remains an inspiration and a source of strength, humility and courage for the thousands of Quebecers and Canadians affected by ALS.
Lou Gehrig Day – June 2
In 2021, Major League Baseball announced that June 2nd will henceforth be known as “Lou Gehrig Day.” An annual, league-wide event that will not only honour and celebrate the legacy of the Hall of Fame first baseman.

ALS Quebec’s Lou Gehrig Mosaic of Hope is filled with over 3000 pictures representing our strong, courageous, resilient and united community who inspires us every day.
