ALS Awareness Month
Embody Hope with us this June for ALS Awareness Month
Every year, the month of June is dedicated to raising awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disease that affects thousands of people and their loved ones across Quebec and Canada.
To this day, there is no cure for ALS and, for most people living with the disease, treatment options remain very limited. To move things forward and progress toward a future where we can end the disease, the ALS community needs ongoing support.
Awareness is just a starting point. Discover how to get involved and be part of those who turn awareness into action!
ALS is a fatal and incurable neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons. It can affect anyone, at any time.
On July 4th, 1939, Lou Gehrig, one of baseball’s greatest players of all time, stood in front of a crowd of 62,000 fans at Yankee Stadium and gave one of the most memorable speeches in sports history. While Gehrig passed away less than two years after delivering his famed speech, he remains an inspiration and a source of strength, courage, and resilience for the thousands of Quebecers in our ALS community.
ALS Quebec supports people affected by ALS and their loved ones at every stage of the disease. We also work to raise awareness among the public and decision-makers, while funding research projects to end ALS.
June 2: Lou Gehrig Day
Since 2021, June 2 has been celebrated as Lou Gehrig Day by MLB across all its stadiums throughout the country. The date is significant: it marks the day Gehrig became the Yankees’ starting first baseman in 1925, and the day of his passing in 1941. It is a global awareness day for ALS.
June 9: Spotlight on ALS and Q&A
Leading amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) researchers and clinicians will shed light on their current clinical studies.
June 21: Global ALS Awareness Day
