YCare Day – For young caregivers

YCare Day 2026
Friday, April 24th, 2026 – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Centre de Réadaptation Lucie-Bruneau, 2275 Laurier Ave E, Montreal
What is YCare?

Founded by Dr. Melinda S. Kavanaugh, professor of social work and licensed clinical social worker specializing in neurological disorders, Global Neuro YCare is an initiative that supports young caregivers of family members with neurological disorders. This modular program offers hands-on training with a multidisciplinary team that includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, respiratory therapists, speech therapists, and neurologists, fostering friendships and support networks in a fun environment.
So far, 87 youth have completed the YCare program, with 92% reporting new friendships and feeling less alone, and 75% increasing their care skills and knowledge.
Why YCare?
Young people often play a crucial role in caring for a loved one with ALS, but many have questions and feel alone in their experiences. YCare is a program designed specifically for children and teens, providing them with a hands-on training with ALS care equipment led by a multidisciplinary team that includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, respiratory therapists, speech therapists, and neurologists. Participants will move through different stations alongside other peers, fostering support and learning in a fun environment.
Who can attend?
