How Is ALS Research Progressing?

On November 19th, 2015, the ALS Society of Canada announced historical investments to further research towards a treatment and a cure. ALS Canada Research Program funds the most promising research, aiming to make ALS a treatable disease. A total of nine competitive calls were put out for grants ranging from $75,000 to $2.9 million, the portfolio of projects were selected through a highly competitive process, reviewed by national and international panels of ALS research experts, with the applications judged for work that would significantly move the field of ALS research forward. In total the 34 projects being funded through the announcements in one year represent 56 investigators at 15 universities in seven provinces.

How Does the ALS Society Help?

The ALS Society of Quebec supports and contributes funding towards research for the treatment and cure of ALS. We support the initiatives of the ALS Society of Canada through our annual fundraising events by:

  • Investing research funds where they will have the most impact.
  • Funding excellent and relevant peer-reviewed research.
  • Funding research that is evaluated at a high level using international evaluation methods adopted by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

The ALS Society of Canada funds the most promising projects by the finest scientists. Canadian scientists from Montréal, Quebec, London, Toronto, and Vancouver are international leaders in ALS research.

Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry

Sign up for the Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry. The registry helps patients connect with researchers to participate in clinical research that benefit patients by offering possible new therapies, treatments and understanding of their disease. It is the only means by which valid national epidemiologic data about ALS can be obtained.
