Mylène Duchesneau: “Because I want to feel proud.”

Mylène Duchesneau knows the importance of giving time for a cause that is dear to her heart. As a professional graphic designer, she understands the value of donating her time and skills, much to the pleasure of the ALS Society.

In 2012, Mylène Duchesneau was determined to participate in the Ride to Fight ALS in honor of her father, Michel, who was diagnosed at the age of 61. During this event, she met some of the ALS Society’s employees, whose generosity and sympathy touched her greatly. The kindness she encountered inspired her to give her time generously to the ALS Society. Over the past three years, every month Mylène has dedicated approximately 5 hours to designing and creating posters, pamphlets, annual reports, logos, and other promotional materials- she is the talent behind most of the organization’s beautiful visual elements.

In addition to the warm reception from the ALS Society’s employees, it is her closeness to the disease that keeps her involved. “I was touched by my father’s death. It’s the role of people who are affected by ALS to get involved and help.” Even though her schedule is already pretty full, her dedication makes her proud to “have the power to do a little something for the cause” each month. Mylène has also served as a volunteer soccer coach for many years. According to her, everyone should volunteer for a cause they believe in “for the feeling of pride and consideration.” Thanks to volunteers like Mylène, the Society can spend more time and resources to help people living with ALS.
